Barns and Wildflowers

Driving past huge fields of wildflowers on a dirt road in Superior Township, Michigan, I stopped abruptly and just gazed in amazement! After my initial gasp of happiness, I continued to drive for a few yards when I saw a sign that said “Conservancy Farm”. I turned right away into the gravel driveway and parked behind the beautiful old farmhouse that serves as the Conservancy office.

There were acres and acres of wildflowers and wild grasses growing all around the property.  All are either native to the local area, or if not, will soon be removed as to keep out invasive species of plants.

This first image is from inside of one of the fields. I stood chest high among these beauties with birds flying past me in the gorgeous summer sky! Wildflowers surrounded me in every direction! What a glorious feeling!

There are many out buildings and barns located on the Conservancy land. This one is a smaller wooden structure that is pretty much surrounded and being swallowed by lots of tall native grasses and plants! I think it’s beautiful against the wonderful wildflowers and billowy summer sky!

If you take a walk way out behind the barns, you’ll find several fenced off areas that are gardening plots for some of the township citizens. The whole area is intermixed with more lovely wildflowers. You can see the back of the main red barn and silo as well as a Red-Winged Blackbird and loads more flowers.

Finally this last image is actually one of the first things you’ll see right after you park behind the farmhouse. Maybe I should have put this image first, but anyway here you’ll notice the original log cabin that housed the people who used to farm this land a long time ago. The wonderful and large red barn with the silo sits off to the side and makes quite a presence. A picnic table on the neatly mowed green grass is a great place to take a break from gardening to have a snack or tall glass of lemonade, or to just sit at and admire the beauty that surrounds this wonderful location!

I hope you’ve enjoyed these images of a lovely summer day at a wonderful pure Michigan location!

“The White Barn”

“The White Barn”

Up on a hill sits a lovely white barn,
Being rebuilt on an old family farm.

No tractor is plowing, no cows in these fields
Land sitting quiet, where once crops brought in yields.

I come here to sit, among grasses so tall,
To watch and take photos, thinking of farm life and all.

I can picture where children once played on the farm,
Maybe they helped stock hay in this barn.

The strong wind whispers, as it blows through the grass,
Of times that may come and how quickly they pass.

My time here is done, no longer can I stay,
Farewell for now, till comes another day!

“Good Night Farm”

This image came about as the result of trying to be somewhere else at sunset. Earlier in the day the sky here was totally clouded over, but as the afternoon wore on there began to be a few breaks in the clouds. Some bits of sun peaking through. A good sunset began to look possible!!
Well, as soon as I saw that, I decided to make a plan to head out a couple of hours before sunset to reach a beautiful lake area and try to get some good shots in.
As things often go, that didn’t quite work out. The time was getting late. I was out driving around, but no where near where I had planned.
I decided to head over to the closest place I could think of, and actually get there in time.
This spot here just jumped out at me, as the time for any good light was quickly fading. I love the white fenced area, the field, and buildings you see that look like a farm. These are actually part of a school, with a church behind them.
The clouds were beautiful, but sun was poorly lacking. It did give some pretty hues to the sky though! So in the end, I did catch the sunset, just not quite the place that I had planned on, but that’s just where I was meant to be, and that’s okay with me!! 🙂

“Barn of White”

Among many other types of structures, barns are one of my favorites. Somehow the most common color that I see used on barns seems to be red, if any color, or paint if used at all.
I came across this barn and other buildings and was struck with its beauty. Someone had done such beautiful work on this and the others matching it.
It certainly has a picturesque feel to it. The field leading up to, and surrounding it. The woods behind and to it’s side, and the stormy way the clouds hung over the entire area.
It was enough to make me stop the car, turn round in the middle of the road, and get out for a good long look and a few shots, which was all I was able to do, then it started to rain. I imagine this whole area would be gorgeous in autumn in a blaze of color!!
What a backdrop that would make for this lovely barn in white!!
